Rukeyah’s passion for art, and, in particular, working in oil, has developed over the past seven years after joining a small local art class in Fleet.  Prior to that time Rukeyah had no experience of painting in any medium. For the past four years or so, Rukeyah has been a member of a large and vibrant art group based in Odiham.  Under the guidance of their teacher, who is a specialist illustrator and artist, the group holds two sessions a week and usually puts on a successful annual exhibition in the Old Barn in Odiham.  Rukeyah has also exhibited at AppArt, an art and sculpture exhibition that has been held annually since 2012 at Prior’s Field School near Godalming (although not in 2020 owing to Covid 19).    In addition, to attending this group, Rukeyah has home instruction on a regular basis from a local artist and art teacher. - Rukeyah Sturgeon

Rukeyah is originally from Cape Town in South Africa.  She has lived in north-east Hampshire for the past 26 years and is married with a daughter and two grandchildren.  Before retiring, Rukeyah worked in the oil and gas industry in London.  Rukeyah’s interests, until recently, included running, which she enjoyed for over 30 years, and tennis and yoga. She also enjoys travel and most years returns home to South Africa to see her mother and other family members.
