One of my favourite things about being a landscape painter is finding wild places to explore. I am particularly drawn to the drama of rock formations and their presence within a landscape. Through colour and mark making I hope to express the feeling of being overwhelmed and humbled by a space in nature. I graduated with a Fine Art degree from Norwich University of the Arts in 2012, and 2 years ago I took the plunge and left my full time work picture framing to pursue my art career. Since then I have taken part in shows including the Sunday Times Watercolour Competition, Wales Contemporary and The Peoples Landscape. These have been amazing experiences, and I am keen to build on them through working with galleries and solo exhibitions. I am really excited about the future of my practice, and I feel that I am just beginning to explore our relationship with the land and why it is important to feel part of the landscape. - Josephine Clouting, 2020
Josephine Clouting graduated from Norwich University of Arts in 2012. Josephine is based in Berkshire. In addition to being a Holly Bush Emerging Woman Painter Prize finalist, she has also been shortlisted for the Royal Academy of Arts Summer exhibition in 2020. Josephine's experimental approach to painting stems from a desire to combine a naive curiosity in science and the natural world, with an interest in the history of abstract art.
