As a result of my ambition to try and paint everyday, I am building up a collection of work, and to have this award would provide a fantastic and much needed opportunity to exhibit and get my paintings out there! As well as the commercial advantages this could bring from a sale, I am really keen to get some feedback, it would be invaluable to find out which of the would appeal most to others, as this would help moving forward. I am also looking to encourage commissions and I believe this publicity could help, and thereby expand my experience of painting people and portraits. Also, to have two exhibitions in the pipeline would be a great motivator for new projects and fresh ideas as I like the challenge of working towards a goal. Although I have just started to sell a few paintings, the prize money would help enormously with the daily financial pressures of spending all my time painting. I would embrace 100% and make the most of all the possibilities that could be gained from winning this prestigious award. - Catharine Gibbens, 2020
