One of the things that draws me again and again to look at William Nicholson or Georgio Morandi is the serenity evoked in the simple juxtaposition of everyday objects. Never have we spent more time with those things as now. We’ve had to learn to be resourceful, patient, and careful. In many ways we’ve learned to look at the familiar and value it, aware suddenly of its fragility. The Holly Bush prize would allow me to develop a series of works based on ephemeral light, the transient versus the permanent, and the nature of appreciating what we have within reach. - Jackie Naffah, 2020
